adidas is in the process of reviving the Rivalry, a premier basketball shoe that originally launched in 1986. This week, NYC’s Extra Butter teased their take on the Rivalry Low, coming soon.
Retro basketball shoes continue to dominate the world of sneakers, as brand’s continue to reach into their archives to remaster some of their classic footwear. Over the past few years, adidas has quietly been tinkering with their 1986 Rivalry silhouette, launching occasional special projects and collaborations. Now, it appears they are ready to revive the silhouette in full, with the renovated Rivalry ’86 being their flagship model. Additionally, they’ve tapped a few choice collaborators to help relaunch the silhouette, like New York’s Extra Butter. While details on this release are still few and far between, pairs have already launched in Asia, with a wider U.S. drop likely to follow soon. Featuring two colors of the Rivalry Low ’86, one pair bright aqua and orange accents against a soft grey backdrop, while the other is darker, using a deep navy blue for the base with red and grey layered on top.
