Nike’s Air Max 1 is getting a new regional update this season, dedicated to California’s San Francisco Bay Area. ‘The Bay’ version comes with suede and fur, and some unique motifs for the area.
The San Francisco Bay Area has long been somewhat neglected by sneaker brands, who prefer to pay tribute to more major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Still, the Bay has a long history in the world of footwear, one that Nike is celebrating this year with their upcoming ‘SF Chinatown‘ pack, and now, ‘The Bay’ Air Max 1. The latter only emerged this week, and shows a clean white take on the AM1 with various materials and nods to the region. The look begins with a white canvas base layer, adding the mudguard in cracked porcelain leather, with white tumbled leather for the midfoot and heel counters. The tongues come in a shaggy white fur, and feature Bay Area branded tags at the top. Swooshes have been altered to be a red embroidered feather, the meaning of which is currently unclear. Finally, a gum outsole and Nike Coast hangtags complete the look.
