Omitted from Nike Sportswear’s Summer Football Collection because it’s too new to be considered one of the Swoosh’s heritage models, the Nike5 Gato returns in a new version at roughly the halfway point between Euro 2012 and the London Olympics. And speaking of right in the middle, this new ‘Barcelona’ Street Gato (notice the Barça-striped tongue tag) has a slightly sportier build when compared to the Street variation, its sleek upper giving way to triangular cutouts that suggest modern technical elements. But instead of Hyperfuse or another newfangled synthetic, the Gato Especial sticks with suede for superior ball control and longevity (not to mention Midnight Navy’s good looks).
