Vans Supports Independent Skateshops During COVID-19 Crisis With “Foot The Bill” Customization Program

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone and everything since its first confirmed case at the top of the year. Today, Vans has launched its “Foot The Bill” initiative in an effort to assist those among the most impacted.

Through “Foot The Bill,” which leverages the existing Vans Customs platform, the California institution has pledged its support to 80 small, independent businesses around the world. At launch, 30 U.S.-based skate shops, restaurants and other community-driven spaces have designed their own Classic Slip-On or Era, which are purchasable via the aforementioned customization program. Net proceeds of these unique designs will go directly to Vans’ extended family.

“My father Paul Van Doren always said that we were a people company that made shoes,” said Steve Van Doren, son of Vans’ founder and Vans’ Vice President of Events and Promotions. “We were once a small business and wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of these partners. We hope to rally together with our consumers to lend a helping hand to those that are in need.”

Enjoy a quick look at some of the “Foot The Bill” creations here below. To check out the full catalog, visit Vans.com right now as each custom is limited to 500 pairs. Once styles are sold out, they’ll no longer be available.

UPDATE (05/19/2020):
Vans has announced a 30% discount on all items purchased on Vans.com through May 25th for U.S.-based COVID-19 healthcare workers and first-responders. Status of either may be verified on Vans’ online web store.

Furthermore, the California-institution has kicked off a contest offering a lifetime supply of Vans (10 $1000 U.S. Vans gift cards) to a lucky winner and her/his/their frontline hero of choice. To enter, use “#OFFTHEWALLSCHALLENGE” on social media to share a photo showcasing how you’re staying inspired despite sheltering-in-place. Submissions may include but are not limited to: new hobbies, personal artwork, jam sessions, skate tricks, and other creative pursuits.

UPDATE (04/22/2020):
Doug Palladini, Global Brand President for Vans, has penned an open letter to the brand’s extended family. In it, Palladini reiterates that Vans values itself as “a people company that makes shoes and apparel.” He also offers an update on the “Foot The Bill” initiative, which has committed approximately $4 million USD to 160 community-driven businesses worldwide since launching on April 3rd. Furthermore, Vans’ Global Brand President speaks to the brand’s product donations and partnership with kitchen and workwear brand Hedley & Bennett to use Vans’ shoe canvas to make and donate more than 250,000 reusable face masks.
