Expect Big Changes To The Nike SB Dunk Low “City Of Cinema”

New images look way different than the initial sample.

Expect Big Changes To The Nike SB Dunk Low “City Of Cinema”

Updated June 12th, 2024: New images of the Nike SB Dunk Low “City Of Cinema” have surfaced courtesy of @masterchefian, revealing considerable differences compared to the initially-previewed sample pair. Most notably; the brown varnish stain that appeared on the midsole of the sample is absent here, a welcome development given all the backlash it received on social media.

Additionally, we see a handful of other departures from the sample. The Swoosh now appears in solid black (as opposed to a yellow/black gradient) and without piping, and the outsole goes from light gum to to dark brown. Moreover, the sock lining is no longer comprised of satin, now appearing in traditional mesh.

While we didn’t get a good look at the insoles in our first preview, this latest set of images reveals an intricate illustration of theatre curtains on the top portion, complemented by French mache masks and vintage-inspired Nike branding at the heel. Like all Nike SB Dunks with “City Of…” titles releasing in 2024, the design odes to the 2024 Olympic host city of Paris, with this edition delivering a clear nod to its many vintage theatres.

We’ve yet to hear of a firm drop date at the time of this writing, only that the shoes are expected to release Holiday 2024. Return to our Sneaker Release Dates page for updates while we stay current with all the latest available info.

Collaborative Nike SB Dunks have always been at the forefront of consumer consciousness, but at the same time, Beaverton’s skate sub-brand continues to furnish different GR collections that hold their own without third party influence. The brand’s most current theme follows a titular formula consisting of “City Of …” and pays tribute to the 2024 Olympic host city of Paris with fitting designs taken after their descriptor. We saw the release of two “City Of Love” colorways this past Valentine’s Day and a “City Of Style” Dunk Low in April, and now we’re learning of a “City Of Cinema” pair set to drop Holiday 2024.

Images posted by @sbheadsbe provide a detailed look at an early sample ahead of the shoe’s release, showcasing a red and gold upper complete with a liberal use of velvet throughout. Interestingly, those unmistakable cinema-drawn elements are complemented by roughened leather overlays and a huge mud-dipped accent on the midsole, comprising an aesthetic that’s far from worthy of the red carpet. Perhaps the seemingly out-of-place brown stripe is meant the reflect the varnished nature of old Parisian movie theaters, but additional context from Nike SB should clear up all speculation as we creep closer to a release. Otherwise, the shoe wears a gradient Swoosh with yellow piping, clear plastic Nike tongue tags with retro branding, and a small splash of blue velvet at the heel. It’s worth mentioning that the final ready-for-market product might look different than the sample on display here, as is sometimes the case when it comes to early previews of this nature.
