Jovani Hernandez As Chicago’s first skate collective centered around Black, Indigenous, and people of color Femme and Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Non-Binary communities, froSkate is important to both the city and sport of skateboarding. Soon enough, the three-year-old cohort will spread its influence with a wider audience via its Nike SB Dunk High collaboration.
Constructed from high-quality leather, the upcoming pair indulges in a medley of disparate tones that take after the collective’s multi-color logo. Deep yellows work in-tandem with vibrant reds to create an eye-catching arrangement across left and right shoes, with “All Love” messaging taking over “White”-colored mid-foot panels. Standard Nike SB logos are replaced at the top of the tongue with “froSkate” text. Underfoot, semi-translucent Air Jordan 1-like outsoles reveal a series of colorful graphics ostensibly shaped like puzzle pieces, a design choice that falls in line with the group’s mission.
