Heel Strikers, Rejoice!: The adidas Switch FWD Turns Weight Into Forward Motion

Heel Strikers, Rejoice!: The adidas Switch FWD Turns Weight Into Forward Motion

Responsible for one of the most successful marathon running shoes of the last two years, adidas is obsessed with the sport. And while the brand continues to work with elite, professional athletes on ways to modify equipment for world and course records, it doesn’t forget about common folks.

Currently, the Three Stripes offers a plethora of choices within the running space – there’s the Adistar, Solarglide, and Supernova series, amongst others. On July 27th, the brand will launch the adidas Switch FWD (read: “Forward”), the latest sneaker that aims to make running more fun for everybody.

Built with “forward motion” in mind, the silhouette features strategic cutouts across its mesh upper for a fast look and breathable ride. The padded tongue differs from the brand’s Adizero line, but offers a comfortable look for any daily mileage. According to Milli Seiffert, Product Manager at adidas, the Switch FWD was developed over the course of several years with the goal of helping heel strikers – which reportedly make up 80% of runners – with their stride. The midsole underfoot forgoes any Lightstrike or BOOST foams seen in other adidas Running products in favor of an EVA compound laden with voids. Similar to adidas 4D technology, the experimental cushioning solution turns downward pressure into forward motion. The stack height (45mm/35mm) and angled design of the Switch FWD’s midsole rewards those who explore a full gait cycle during their runs. A TPU plate visible from underneath the shoe provides stability to the tall sneaker while Continental rubber delivers improved grip for all conditions.

Enjoy official details of the shoe ahead, and anticipate a global adidas.com launch on July 29th. The Switch FWD will be priced at $140 USD.
