Last week, Sneaker News reported the unveiling of the Nike SB Air Jordan 1 – a sneaker release that would bridge together two seemingly exclusive labels with rich historical context in mind. Although the younger generation might not sense the significance behind this release, we explored the path to this momentous sneaker release with our Hoodlums By Air feature. In summary, Air Jordan 1s were a popular skate shoe in the 80s, but some could argue that this bit of forgotten cult info was better left unearthed.
Inter-brand partnerships can be a bit awkward (think Jeremy Scott’s D Rose 3, the NSW Lifestyle versions of Nike Basketball’s signature shoes), but Nike kept it as simple as possible – keep the Air Jordan 1 silhouette as is and add some details that reflect rebellious artistry. So while Jordan is the predominant spirit in this mash-up of two, the sneakers come in an SB box.
