Nike Brings Back The Original Cortez, But Don’t Call It The “Forrest Gump” Shoes

Nike Brings Back The Original Cortez, But Don’t Call It The “Forrest Gump” Shoes

Original Nike Cortez Release 4

Nike is as much about history as it is about innovation. That said, the brand is paying tribute to what is arguably the most recognizable Nike running shoe ever – the red-Swoosh Cortez. This upcoming release is an exact replica of the first version that showed up in stores in 1972, with the zig-zag edges, back pull-tab, rubber toe-cap, foam spongy tongue, and minimal leather upper, but don’t confuse these for the “Forrest Gump” shoes because these are, quite frankly, entirely different. Gump’s kicks were the ’77 version that didn’t feature the pull-tab and had a more padded sole, but the iconic white/red/blue colorway is what’s been a visual anchor for this history-making Running shoe. Grab the Cortez retro on September 24th at NikeLab retailers worldwide and online on September 24th.
