adidas To Release An Arthur Ashe x Stan Smith Shoe

Arthur Ashe Adidas Stan Smith Collection 1

Legendary tennis player and civil rights right activists Arthur Ashes is honored in this year’s Black History Month collection by adidas. Already previewing the adidas Basketball BHM collection for 2017, the Three Stripes now offer a look at the Originals collection, including the Stan Smith and apparel pieces honoring Ashe. The first black male to win a Grand Slam tennis title (three times total), Ashe blazed trails for African Americans in tennis and the world of sports as a whole, so the iconic Stan Smith is a fitting model to pay homage his legacy. The shoe features a stenciled portrait of Ashe on the tongue and a unique black trim on the white leather upper. The Arthur Ashe x adidas Stan Smith is limited to 1,975 pairs, a reference to his 1975 Wimbledon victory—the first for any African American.

The Arthur Ashe apparel collection is available now at adidas.com, with the Stan Smith to follow in late February.
