Teyana Taylor’s Good Taste

Call her the queen of the sneakerheads.

Musician, dancer and the only female artist signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music record label, Teyana Taylor is putting female sneaker fans first, teaming up with Adidas on its Unite All Originals global campaign.

“I always want to work with people that I can grow with,” Taylor said of the brand. “It’s good to have partnerships like this, where they give me the creative control that I want.”

Taylor lent her artistic vision for a special gladiator-themed Adidas sneaker, dubbed the Harlem GLC, which hit stores last month. And she now is working on a follow-up collaboration with the brand for later this year. Different tastemakers involved in the Unite All Originals campaign will also hold special pop-up events in Los Angeles and Atlanta this week and next.

Here, the New York native talks about her favorite Harlem haunts and her infatuation with Kobe Bryant.

Earliest music memory:
“Listening to Teena Marie, Michael Jackson, Mint Condition, Xscape and Aaliyah growing up.”

Best shopping city:
New York. “I’m from here, and the city is the reason I’m so fly.”

Favorite basketball team:
“I got three. The Chicago Bulls, because their colors go with everything I have. The Knicks, because I’m a New Yorker. And the Lakers, because I love Kobe Bryant. He’s so talented. I love his intensity, his heart, his drive, his effort and the way it carries his team.”

Must-visit restaurants in Harlem:
“My top three spots are Dirty Kitchen, Spanish Kitchen and the Fish Market.”

If I could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, it would be:
Michael Jackson. “Because of his singing, his dancing and his fashion, of course I’d want to sit down with him. There are so many more other people, but he definitely tops the list.”
