Khombu Outfits Team USA

Khombu’s latest boot project takes patriotism seriously.

The outdoor brand, owned by Eastman Footwear Group, has had a longstanding connection with the U.S. Ski Team, as an official supplier. But this year, Khombu sat down with several of the athletes to craft an apres-ski boot that meets their unique needs.

Khombu is unveiling the boot today to participating team members, who included Abby Ghent, Jacqueline Wiles, Andrew Weibrecht and Anna Marno.

Here’s what they’ll see: The Alta style is waterproof and lightweight, with skid and slip-resistant outsoles and a cold temperature rating of -20 degrees Fahrenheit.

The women’s boot is offered in two versions: The official U.S. Ski Team colorway (red, white and blue, naturally) will retail for $129 and be available for pre-order in January, with a May delivery date. A street model, priced at $99, is now in stores such as Lord & Taylor, The Tannery in Boston and online at Zappos.com.

To create the ski team boot, Khombu recruited help from Arkansas manufacturer Munro & Co., which is assembling the product.

“Khombu shares a passion not only to provide the ‘best’ possible footwear we can to our partners, we also have a passion to create job opportunity and do whatever we can to support our local community,” said Brandy McCarty, divisional VP of brand strategy for Khombu.

He added that the label aims to continue developing its domestic manufacturing program, with the goal of adding a men’s style to the collection.
