Reebok Increases CrossFit Prize Funds

The prize stakes are rising for CrossFit.

Reebok, the title sponsor of the CrossFit Games, announced that the competition’s prize purse is increasing.

Starting this year — specifically, at the upcoming competition on July 25 in Carson, Calif. — and continuing through 2020, payouts over that time period will total more than $16.75 million. Prior prize winnings over the past seven years were about $4 million.

“The sport has come a long way in the first eight years. The competition and the athletes are evolving, and the increased prize purse reflects the opportunities CrossFit is creating for the fittest athletes. Our partners at Reebok are helping make that happen,” Justin Bergh, GM of the CrossFit Games, said in a statement.

This year, payouts for the CrossFit Games will be $1.75 million and increase to $2 million in 2015. Moving forward, the prize fund will increase by $200,000 each year until reaching a total of $3 million in 2020.
