Designers and executives are ringing in the New Year with resolutions. “I want to have peace and health — for the world, of course,” said Manolo Blahnik, “but a little for me, too.” For Brian Atwood, music is calling his name. “My 2014 [goal] is to take more time for myself by learning to play the guitar,” he said. Meanwhile, Monique Lhuillier told Spy she wants “to be thankful and just take a minute to remember all that I am grateful for.” And at United Nude, director Andrew Kiernan is vowing to visit Ireland more to see family and friends. As for his professional life, he said his resolution is “to have more face-time with my smaller business partners and to listen to their needs.”
Red-Carpet Ready
And the Oscar goes to … Alejandro Ingelmo. Not exactly, but the designer is hoping his evening looks will get some screen time in the coming months. “I recently collaborated with Swarovski on a special collection, Alejandro Ingelmo Evening, [including] men’s and women’s shoes with a focus on the red carpet,” he said. “I’m really excited to see what everyone wears this awards season.” But before the Golden Globes kick things off later this month, Ingelmo is off on a snowboarding trip. “Being in the mountains is truly relaxing for me and such a great place to unwind,” he said.

Rousseau Retro
It might be a new year, but Jerome Rousseau is taking a few creative cues from bygone eras. “I’ve been inspired by music [of the 1970s and ’80s], particularly the solo works of Jody Watley and her personal style,” the designer told Spy. “I’ve also fallen in love with disco music again through Bryan Rabin’s amazing Giorgio’s [Saturday night dance parties with Adam XII] in Los Angeles. Both of these [inspired me to] research influences I had not looked into for a while.” And Rousseau’s recent retro discoveries could translate into some funky footwear for future seasons, he said. “They are definitely creating an imprint on my upcoming works.”

Beyoncé rocking it in Steve Madden. The songstress never ceases to surprise her audiences and she did it again releasing an exclusive “visual album” on iTunes. In her newest video, “Pretty Hurts,” Beyoncé and all of her backup dancers are sporting the Madden Dejavu style.
