Nike Wins Contract to Outfit University of Michigan

Nike Inc. just took home the contract to be the athletic supplier to the University of Michigan.

In a deal announced today, starting in August 2016 Nike will provide the apparel, equipment and footwear for the school’s 31 programs until 2027. There is an option to extend to 2031.

Additionally, Jordan brand apparel and footwear is included for the basketball women’s and men’s teams.

Terms for the deal were not available.

It’s a big get for Nike, and a major loss for Adidas, which is trying to rebuild it’s profile in the U.S. Of the Big 10 conference teams, Nike now holds nine, Adidas has three and Under Armour has two. Adidas still has two key names in the conference including Nebraska and Wisconsin.  Last year though, the giant lost several high profile teams’ contracts outside the conference: Tennessee to Nike and Notre Dame to Under Armour.
