The Fashion Designer Shuffle: Who’s In, Who’s Out

There always is a bit of a shuffle of designer’s after a fashion season, but this year has seen a fair share of high profile moves shaking up the established fashion houses. From designers jumping ship to competitors, new faces being brought in and significant overhauls in specific departments, this year has seen some big name moves.

In light of the impending departure of Alexander Wang at Balenciaga, here are a few notable moves to know going into spring ’16 Fashion Week.

Emilo Pucci: Creative director since 2008, Peter Dundas exited in February. He was replaced by Massimo Giorgetti, who was previously at the label MSGM.

Roberto Cavalli: Peter Dundas was named creative director in March.

Balenciaga: Alexander Wang is rumored to be parting ways with the house after the September Paris Fashion Week show.

Gucci: Frida Giannni exited Gucci in December of last year and replaced with newcomer Alessandro Michele, who has embraced a new and more playful aesthetic.

J.Crew/Madewell: Somsack Sikhounmuong named womenswear designer at J.Crew, replacing Tom Mora. Fashion innovator Jenna Lyons is staying on as creative director, and Sikhounmuong will report to her.

DKNY & Donna Karan: Founder and creative director Donna Karan exited her namesake line this summer. The announcement came shortly after DKNY named Public School duo, Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow, as consultants and creative directors of the contemporary brand.
