DC Shoes Reveals How Robbie Maddison Made Viral ‘Pipe Dream’ Video

DC Shoes is riding the viral wave. After the company debuted Robbie Maddison’s “Pipe Dream” video earlier this month, which generated more than 40 million views on YouTube, DC Shoes is releasing a three-part series on how the stunt rider “surfed” a 275-pound dirt bike on one of Tahiti’s most ferocious waves.

The Huntington Beach, Calif.-based footwear firm said the videos, titled “Behind the Dream: The Making of Robbie Maddison’s ‘Pipe Dream,’” aims to give viewers an close-up look at Maddison’s personal project and the challenges he faced during the two years it took to complete.

Watch his historic ride here:

“I have been fortunate to witness a lot of things, and this was the biggest gap between an idea and reality I have ever seen,” said Jeff Taylor, DC’s global brand leader and “Pipe Dream” executive producer, in a statement. “I knew that if this was physically possible, Robbie Maddison would find a way to make it happen.”

Maddison’s ride takes place in Tahiti, where he surfs his tricked-out dirt bike (it has skis on the sides) on the famous waves of Teahupoo and Papara.

To further promote the DC brand, the biker timed the launch of his signature shoe, aptly named Maddo, to coincide with the release of “Pipe Dream.” The shoe features an M logo on the tongue and the brand’s logo on the side panel.

The first behind-the-scenes video can be seen below, with two more installments rolling out today and tomorrow.
