Adidas Expanding North American Headquarters

Herzogenaurach, Germany-based Adidas AG is growing its footprint in Portland, Ore. The company announced late last week that it plans to expand its North American headquarters after purchasing a building next to its existing campus.

The current Adidas Village on Greeley Avenue in Portland consists of five buildings covering 11 acres that house nearly 1,200 employees, up from approximately 850 last year. With the addition of this newest property, the campus will comprise six building over 14 acres. The new building, which measures 25,000 square feet, will be able to accommodate 150 employees.

Mark King, president of Adidas Group North America, said in a statement, “We are growing. Our business is up, we’re seizing opportunity and we’re expanding our visibility in America.”

In its most recent earnings report, Adidas AG posted solid gains. In particular, it reported that sales in North America grew by 11 percent in Q3 and improved 8 percent for the first nine months.

“Our strategy in America is not to simply get incrementally better year over year,” said King. “We want to move mountains. To do that, we are creating an internal culture of innovation to drive large-scale change.”

Adidas has had a U.S. base of operations in Portland since 1993 and moved into its current location in 2001. While rumors circulated a few years ago that the brand might relocate, it has since opted to stick with the City of Roses — and even teamed up with Portland Trailblazers star Damian Lillard to show some hometown pride.
