Dick’s Opening Four New Stores, Adds New CFO

Dick’s Sporting Goods appears to be making good on the promises of CEO Edward Stack, back in May, to grow the business by adding new stores. The company has unveiled its plans to open four stores on Friday, June 19 in different cities across the country.

The news comes just days after Dick’s announced that former Kraft Foods Group EVP, CFO and senior advisor Teri List-Stoll would join the company in August as CFO.

Andre Hawaux, Dick’s current EVP, COO and CFO, will continue to serve in the CFO role until List-Stoll assumes the position. Subsequently, Hawaux will continue to serve as the EVP and COO.

Regarding the new-store roll out, Dick’s will host grand openings on June 19 for its new stores in Arcola, Va., Orlando, Fla., Winchester, Va., and Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Each store will have its own three-day celebration—through Sunday, June 21—featuring celebrity athlete appearances and free giveaways, the company said in a release.

The new locations will feature Nike and Under Armour shops, athletic and outdoor apparel, footwear and gear and 40-plus in-store services by Dick’s certified associates, the company said.

When the Coraopolis, Pa.-based sporting-goods retailer reported its first quarter earnings on May 19, its profits showed a 10 percent year-over-year decline. However, Stack chalked up losses to a slower start to the spring selling season and assured investors of his confidence in the firm’s full-year outlook and its focus on growing the business “through driving store productivity [and] adding new stores in new and underpenetrated markets.”

“In new stores that we’ll be opening up this year, we’re redeveloping the shopping environment for the athletic female, including updated dressing rooms and improved merchandising presentation, which effectively pulls the entire women’s concept together,” Stack said during the conference call.
