Tennis-Inspired Shoes To Celebrate The US Open

All eyes will be courtside on Aug. 31 as the US Open tennis tournament kicks off in New York. For aficionados who want to step into the right fashion mood to enjoy the games, there are plenty of athletic-inspired kicks that take their cue from the real deal.

While iconic French brand Lacoste offers head-to-toe performance tennis gear, the company also carries fashion  footwear that borrows from those styles. Its Marthe LCR is a fun ballet style in canvas, complete with the Lacoste crocodile mascot on the upper. It retails for $65.

Common Projects keeps the tennis theme authentic with its Tournament style in leather. The simple sneaker, made in Italy, works with everything from a short skirt to boyfriend jeans. The look doesn’t come cheap, however, retailing fro $375.

Also from Italy is sneaker brand Superga, whose take on the tennis theme comes in basic canvas. The thick-rubber-bottom style, retailing for $65, comes in lots of fun colors.

Keds‘ iconic Champion oxford, often referred to as “tennies” by Midwesterners, was  launched in 1916 and is still going strong. The simple, retro look is a summer must-have, reinterpreted seasonally in fun patterns and prints and retailing for an easy $50.

West Coast brand SeaVees is also interpreting the canvas classic tennis shoe with its 06/67 Montery Sneaker, retailing for $78. It’s detailed in salt-washed canvas and sports a thick, cushioned outsole.
