At the 29th annual FN Achievement Awards ceremony on Dec. 2, Alexa Chung will be named Style Influencer of the Year — an award that has previously been bestowed on Nicole Richie and Tabitha Simmons.
As one of fashion’s favorite darlings, Chung is certainly one to look to for the latest and greatest in footwear, in part because of her close relationships with top designers and brands, including Charlotte Olympia, Roger Vivier, Gianvito Rossi, Tabitha Simmons and Bionda Castana.
In fact, Simmons named her Alexa flats after the U.K. trendsetter, and British label Mulberry named a bag for her.
During New York Fashion Week, Chung was spotted at an intimate dinner held by Roger Vivier and Mytheresa.com to honor Vivier Creative Director Bruno Frisoni.
What makes Chung so in-demand among the fashion elite? First, there’s her slightly undone, always-sophisticated aesthetic that is refreshingly unpredictable — a rarity in today’s Instagram-driven fashion world.
And with 1.9 million Instagram followers and 1.58 million Twitter followers, Chung has the ability to practically catapult any brand she wears to near-instant stardom. In September, Bionda Castana designer Natalia Barbieri told FN that Chung “has been a huge supporter of ours. We always wanted a British ambassador because that’s who we are,” she said.
Chung also has an innate understanding of how to bridge the gap between high fashion and accessible style. Recently, she co-founded the fashion app Villoid, which brings together social media, digital community and e-commerce by allowing users to share photos of their favorite products or follow influencers like Chung, and then purchase items they like with the click of a button.
“You know when you wake up in the morning you’re like, ‘Oh my god, what am I going to wear today?’” said Chung in her Villoid app launch video. “I think street style is such a huge influence on so many designers these days — it’s no longer the sad little brother of the fashion conglomerate. It’s really where inspiration comes from.”
On Dec. 2, all sides of the footwear world — from luxury to performance athletics — will converge for FN’s annual awards ceremony.
Now in its 29th year, the FN Achievement Awards have recognized the biggest talents in the shoe business, including Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Stuart Weitzman and Pierre Hardy, as well as powerhouse brands like Nike, Under Armour and Prada.
