9 Craziest Celebrity Red Carpet Shoes

When it comes to red carpet fashion, some celebrities will do whatever it takes to make a statement. Whether it’s strapping meat on a pair of shoes or wearing platform sandals with the middle finger plastered on the side, stars have gone above and beyond when they’ve decided to dress feet first.

FN counts down the craziest red carpet shoes, starting with Mother Monster herself — Lady Gaga.

1. Lady Gaga

The “Born This Way” singer chose the infamous meat ensemble designed by Franc Fernandez for the 2010 VMA Awards, complete with raw flank steak-wrapped platform heels.

2. Nicki Minaj

Minaj showed up to the 2011 MTV VMAs’ red carpet in quite the cartoon/toy/Harajuku-esque look. Past the wig, ice-cream cone chain and metal-minesweeper dress, the rapper chose to ditch her heels for Shojono Tomo leg warmers and socks. Her footwear included a furry friend, Pompons, bows and ribbon.

3. Marion Cotillard

From the front, the Oscar-winner seemed to be sporting casual strappy sandals, but from the back, little figurines replaced what would’ve been a heel. These $1,600 Dior shoes featured the Fertility Goddess, and back in 2009, the question was whether they were offensive or fashion-forward.

4. Daphne Guinness

The fashion icon debuted Alexander McQueen’s “armadillo” shoes, which measured nearly 12 inches from floor to ankle, at the Nars 15th anniversary party. Though the shoes are not new to the fashion world — having made their way into music videos and onto various red carpets — we at FN would still do a double-take when seeing these masterpieces.

The “Sex and the City” star left Carrie Bradshaw’s shoe style behind and brought out her spirit animal — a lioness — at the premiere of the film “I Don’t Know How She Does It.” Parker wore Christian Louboutin Alex Lion Paw Pumps, proving she is just as glamorous whether she’s a cat or a human.

Angelina Jolie wore a pair of villainous Christian Louboutin heels inspired by “Maleficent” that were custom-made for her press tour. The Malangelis were designed by Jolie and Louboutin, featuring what looks to be a spindle and a prick of blood.

9. Helena Bonham Carter

Though”crazy” may not be the best word for this look, it definitely was a head-scratcher. The actress attended the 2011 Golden Globe Awards in a Vivienne Westwood gown paired with mismatched shoes. Bonham Carter was quoted saying, “Why not wear mismatching shoes? Who says we can’t? I was just having fun. For me, fashion is all about fantasy and putting unlikely things together. That’s what I love. I genuinely love dressing up.”
