Mary Katrantzou x Adidas Hits Stores Today

Mary Katrantzou’s second collection for Adidas Originals drops today in stores and online. The London-based designer is known for her tongue-in-cheek, punchy patterns.

Aside from her take on the Adidas Superstar, Katrantzou’s line is offering the MK ZX Flux Tech trainer in a cutesy print featuring athletic activities and equipment, with touches of iridescence on the heel, as well as a pair in a digital flower print.

Adidas and Katrantzou have had a huge presence on social media leading up to today’s launch. Katrantzou captured the action at last night’s launch party on her Snapchat and has also taken to Twitter today to answer users’ questions, which have been ranging from career advice to her inspiration for the collab.

In June, Katrantzou told FN that the collection is a nod to ’80s sportswear and fitness. “The prints are bold and intricate,” she said. “Upon closer examination, they reveal themselves to be collages of sports gear in action — a stopwatch, a tennis racket and a badminton shuttlecock!”

In working with Adidas for a second time, Katrantzou said she has been able to fully appreciate the brand’s innovative and creative qualities. “The technology they work with to develop their range and maintain their reputation as front-runners in the performance-wear market is incredible, so I felt that we could push the boundaries of what a capsule collection could be.”
