Balenciaga is keeping the Sam Smith hype going. Today, the label released behind-the-scenes photos from Smith’s fall ’15 campaign for the brand.
Earlier in the week, both Balenciaga and Smith teased what they’re describing as a “creative collaboration” on Instagram. For his first collab with a major fashion house, Smith posed for a series of black-and-white photos shot by Josh Olins.
The behind-the-scenes shots reveal Smith in broody, contemplative poses in what looks to be some sort of concrete dungeon-like space created at Centrestage Studios in London. The photos also allow a closer look at the footwear featured in the campaign. Smith appears in heavy black boots that hit at mid-calf. The shoes are part of Balenciaga’s fall ’15 men’s collection and will also be available in a dark ash gray.

Over the past two days, Balenciaga has periodically given us peeks into the making of the campaign. Yesterday, the house posted a behind-the-scenes video of Smith at the shoot. Today’s photos reveal an intimate scene with photographer Olins shooting Smith in minimal lighting.
Balenciaga Creative Director Alexander Wang described Smith as having the characteristics of the Balenciaga man. “Beyond his tremendous talent, Sam Smith conveys a quiet elegance and a subtle sensuality that are perfect for Balenciaga.”
