First Look At Aquazzura’s Spring 2016 Shoe Collection

From Byzantine-studded sandals to pom pom-adorned raffia heels to unique takes on feather and clever flats, Edgardo Osorio wanted to offer his “global nomad” consumer an eclectic assortment for spring ’16.

At presentation in Paris, the designer took time out to share his inspirations for the season and thoughts on the single sole versus the platform.

On putting together a collection: “It always starts with a set of themes. I always mixing so many things. I’m calling our girl a “global nomad” because she is everywhere. She travels and collects things, and it’s the way she mixes that makes things special. This season, I was looking at all the places I love like Colombia, Mexico and Turkey and Greece, South America in general.

On the rise of flats: “We have such a strong flat business. We’re exploring all different kinds of flats and materials. It’s the first time we’re using glitter, patent, satin, all kinds of different things.”

On platforms versus single sole: “Platforms are huge for us. We were [focused] on the single sole but I don’t think as a designer you can be one thing. You can say I only do this or I only do that. I think that’s so boring. I don’t think the single sole is out either. It’s another girl and another use and another kind of ready to wear. My first platform was based on a friend of mine, Eugenie Niarchos. During the day she wore flats and a night she wears platforms. That girl – if she wants to go out – has the long dress, the wide-leg pants, she has the platform shoe. But how do you do it in a chic way that’s retro but modern but not too lady of the night.”

On making his stores feel exclusive: “My feather shoes I want to do exclusively for our stores. In our stores, the merchandising is different and obviously it’s bigger. I want my stores to feel very different and personal. We can offer things in much more color and interpret it in different ways.
