Barneys New York Announces “Sole Series” Footwear Project

Luxury retailer Barneys New York has announced its “Sole Series” project, which will see eight exclusive footwear collaborations rolled out over six months. Each of the eight styles will be released on its e-commerce website and select retail locations.

The first collaboration, for sale now, saw Barneys rework the classic Adidas Stan Smith sneaker. The men’s and women’s leather sneaker—priced at $150—comes in an all-white or all-black colorway, and features a Barneys-branded tongue, as well as its signature perforated stripes in a new asymmetrical treatment.

“We focused closely on the design elements—not just adding a new color way to a design that existed,” said Chris Pepe, senior buyer of men’s footwear at Barneys New York. “We thought it would be fun and interesting to create an actual ongoing series of monthly drops to really highlight each style, instead of releasing them all at once.”

Each of the following releases, which will range from $120 and $400, will be first announced on the retailer’s Instagram page. Participating brands to come will include Vans, Filling Pieces, Common Projects, Diadora, Timberland, Converse and Brooks.
