Berluti Men’s Spring 2016: Shoe Highlights

Berluti is continuing its luxe sneaker push for spring ’16. The high-end men’s brand, a subsidiary of luxury-goods conglomerate LVMH, presented a colorful range of leather-sneaker styles during Paris Fashion Week.

Artistic director Alessandro Sartori has been eyeing a more youthful aesthetic for the traditionally conservative brand and continued his spunky message this season. Low-top sneakers made up most of the collection, finished in various colored leathers, including a burnished yellow or red. Some styles featured a dip-dye ombré effect.

Slip-on sneakers were given an update in a almond-toe silhouette, finished with goring panels and a double-stitched sole.

While the collection was certainly a step in the right direction — one could easily see the playful shoes on a wide age range — one must wonder how Berluti will transition its price points to reflect the younger customer it has in mind.

With the sneakers easily running $1,000, will the fashion-savvy millennial set really be whipping out their credit cards? It’s a push-and-pull dance. Reducing prices means a drop in quality, something Berluti has made its signature, but a soaring price tag could mean creating beautiful shoes that nobody will buy.

Then again, that’s luxury.
