Casadei Reissues Twister Pump From Archives

Talk about sweet returns. Pulling from his parents’ illustrious 1970s archives, creative director Cesare Casadei reworked the Twister pump for his resort ’16 collection. The macaron-hued styles were featured in this week’s FN as the Shoe of The Week.

“My father is super-technical, and I loved his idea of a twisted construction – it’s genius,” Casadei told FN at his recent presentation in New York City. “I often find inspiration and learn from the past,” he continued. “We must look back in order to look forward.” His parents Quinto and Flora founded the Italian luxury accessory label in 1958.

With that, the brand shares exclusively with FN the original russet style for which the new Twister takes its cues.

“This was a very difficult shoe to get just right,” says Casadei. And has Casadei senior seen this latest hommage? “Oh yes. My father reminded me that because of the design, the two shoes in a pair are each slightly different,” he said on the design’s unique charm.

Casadei also cited the work mid-century work of photographer Ugo Mulas as another source of inspiration this season, with his pastel-punctuated images.
