Converse Launches New Collaboration With Commes des Garçons

Converse is looking eastward for its latest collaboration. The iconic shoe brand has announced the launch of its fourth collection with Japanese fashion house Comme des Garçons, for the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star ’70 Play Commes des Garçons collection.

The four-style collection features the premium All Star Chuck Taylor sneakers in both high-top and low-top versions. They incorporate heavy-grade black and milk canvas uppers, a smaller toe box and a higher midsole, finished in white.

Other features include reinforced contrast canvas heel strips, nickel hardware, thick cotton laces and a cushioned insole for added comfort.

The kicks are accented with a red-heart logo created by New York-based graphic artist Filip Pagowski.

The line will be available for purchase starting May 14, exclusively at Dover Street Market stores in London and New York and online at Doverstreetmarket.com. They will be available at other global retailer partners on May 15 and will retail from $125.

Founded by Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, Commes des Garçons was launched by Kawakubo in 1969, coming into global prominence in the ’80s with its dismantled, unconstructed approach to design. During that period, the label was known for a somber color palette — primarily black, dark gray and white. Today, the collection often include a mix of bright as well as subdued colors, quirky details and voluminous silhouettes.
