Diane von Furstenberg Dishes On Manolo Blahnik And Christian Louboutin

Diane von Furstenberg is having a very big day. The designer’s runway show just wrapped, and her “House of DVF,” Season 2, premieres tonight.

It’s no surprise, then, that the icon has a few very famous designer friends. During a recent exclusive interview  with Footwear News at the designer’s New York City studio, DVF shared some candid moments, like offering advice to a young Christian Louboutin and racking up a very large collection of Manolo Blahnik shoes (alongside Donatella Versace).

DVF’s first footwear memory:
“When I was growing up, being a ballerina was a big thing. And I remember when I bought my first high heels at boarding school — I bought them without my mother knowing. They were the most beautiful pair of shoes. I was probably woken up with Charles Jourdan shoes in the ’70s.”

Who would you like to see play you in a movie?
“Marion Cotillard — she’s real.”

Favorite hobby:
“My passion for hiking has a lot to do with how I feel about shoes. There is nothing more reassuring and powerful than how you feel in hiking boots. They’re comfortable and strong.”

Words of advice for good friend Christian Louboutin:
“I was very involved with Christian in the beginning, when he used to show his shoes on my kitchen table. The biggest advice I gave him was that he could make the most beautiful shoes in the world, but he wouldn’t [succeed] until he did basics.”

Her Manolo Blahnik obsession:
“Donatella Versace and I have more Manolos than anyone else.”
