Eytys Launches Embroidered Sneakers

Stockholm-based unisex sneaker brand Eytys is set to launch a new series of embroidered sneakers.

The two sneaker styles, the Mother Peshawar Day low-top and Odyssey Peshawar Night high-top, will debut on the brand’s e-commerce website tomorrow, as well as in select retail stores. They feature vulcanized rubber soles and cork insoles with arch support and will retail for $260 for the low-top and $330 for the high-top.

Made of fully-embroidered cotton, the sneakers are inspired by war rugs found in Pakistan. The rugs, made by Afghan women in refugee camps surrounding Pakistan’s city of Peshawar, depict a harrowing look at their war-torn lives, featuring motifs of guns, armored cars and helicopters woven into their artworks.

“We were introduced to [war rugs] through a friend of a friend, a carpet dealer specializing in war rugs,” said Schiller. “We started researching the area, read everything we could find and even bought two carpets for reference. The research inspired the patterns and colors of the entire Eytys fall ’15 collection.”
