Manolo Blahnik: 5 Things You Didn’t Know About The Designer

Manolo Blahnik is at the top of the shoe game.

The designer is prepping to open a shop-in-shop in Saks Fifth Avenue later this month — Blahnik’s first time in Saks in New York.

While Manolo Blahnik is definitely a famous face in the industry, there are a few things you likely don’t know about the designer. Here, FN shares five fun facts.

1. He once worked at the United Nations.

Blahnik’s first summer job was an internship at the United Nations in Geneva. Turns out he hated it — he was “bored to tears.”

2. His favorite food in the world is Spanish.

The designer’s favorite thing to eat is Cocido Madrileño — a traditional chickpea-based stew originating from Madrid.

3. If he could be a shoe, it would be a Matador pump.

“It is by far my favorite style of shoe. Very chic and elegant. In general, the matador costume I find the chicest of all. And even though corrida is a very cruel tradition, the matadors always look amazing.”

4. He prefers a woman in flats.

“There is a time and place to wear all heights of shoes. Heels are fabulous, but some women look extremely chic in flats. You have to know how to walk in flats though to look elegant in them.”

5. He is obsessed with cleanliness

And we mean it! The designer admits he takes three showers a day.
