Nicholas Kirkwood To Unveil 10th-Anniversary Collection At London Fashion Week

As he marks 10 years in the luxury-shoe business, Nicholas Kirkwood is unveiling a limited-edition line of playful styles that celebrate the arcade craze of the 1980s and the designer’s own childhood memories.

The made-to-order “10” collection launches at London Fashion Week this Saturday evening.

“It’s a pure creative project based on all of my favorite shoes,” said Kirkwood, who was born in 1980, the same year as Pac-Man. “I wanted to celebrate 10 years of the brand with a collection that sums up many things for me and what I stand for: challenging convention and subverting people’s ideas of what footwear should look like.”

The shoes, which have names like Neon City, Fast Car, Back to the Sneaker, Pac Man and Millenium City, reflect Kirkwood’s bold, graphic aesthetic. “For ‘10,’ I wanted to experiment with graphics in a, quite literally, playful way. It explores the concept of being 10 years old again and the excitement of discovering something for the first time,” the designer said.

Each shoe will be numbered and feature collectable-box packaging, adding to the limited-edition nature of the project. Prices range from $2,700 to $6,900.

After Kirkwood launches the collection this week, the brand will offer trunk shows at key retailers, including Selfridges in London, Le Bon Marché in Paris, Shin Kong Place in Beijing, On Pedder in Hong Kong and Singapore, Bergdorf Goodman and Level Shoe District. Kirkwood will make personal appearances at several of these stores over the next several months.
