For spring ’16 Nicholas Kirkwood found a strong balance between his adventurous and practical sides. Maybe it’s a side effect of growing up and celebrating a milestone 10th anniversary of his eponymous brand, but there was an inherent sophistication and tempered maturity to his latest collection.
“I worked a lot with neutrals and black this season, which was a great opportunity to refine my shapes,” he said, motioning to a group of whip-smart and shiny booties, mules and curvy notched pumps (“the way heels used to dip in the the ’50s,” the designer remarked)
The stopper on tips of stilettos also added a thoughtful punctuation point.
One of the strongest groupings were tubular black suede strappy sandals, featuring his new narrowed block heel. “This felt more refined,” he said of the skinny in profile style.

But his fervent love of clashing hues and mile-away gestures also had it’s place in a graphic outing of architectural patent and suede styles.
