Resort ’16: Footwear Designers’ Shoe Sketches

It all starts with a drawing.

For resort ’16, FN invited a selection of top designers to open their sketchpads and share with us an illustration of a style that captures the essence of their collection. They also revealed the idiosyncratic, thoughtful and quite often irreverent inspirations behind the shoes.

Results ranged from the whimsical at Casadei, Rupert Sanderson and René Caovilla to the architectural at Bionda Castana and Ancient Greek.

Travel provided a lot of footwear fodder as well, with Chelsea Paris’ Theresa Ebagua citing Turkey, Jean-Michel Cazabat referring to Zanzibar, Paul Andrew calling out Hong Kong and Giuseppe Zanotti saluting Los Angeles in their work this season.

Of course, this being resort, holidays and getaways were also channeled by Charlotte Olympia as well as Nicolò Berretta of Giannico, with his ode to poolside glamour.

Sergio Rossi design director Angelo Ruggeri’s artful rendering of the Farah stiletto, with its gleaming gold hoop design, certainly signals this spirit of the good life.
