Sarah Flint Resort 2016: Shoe Highlights

In just her sixth season, designer and recent FN cover subject Sarah Flint has established a quintessentially Americana sensibility. It’s fitting, then, that for resort ’16 (her first pre-collection offering), she turned to her native New England for inspiration. Flint cited the pristine houses of the area and sea breeze as influences for her Liberty prints and preppy white, blue, red and cream tones.

New and notable constructions include the Nancy T-strap sandal, set atop an 85mm heel (about 3⅓ inches), with ankle-wrap detailing — a sweeping trend for resort. Flint told FN that her favorite style this season is the Sabina, a satin-with-fanned suede evening flat that has a certain vintage appeal. The Fina derby was another decidedly throwback style, in burnished saddle leather and raw linen.

Elsewear, the designer also played with natural elements, incorporating espadrille soles on her signature Andrea foldover-vamp flat with raffia uppers. The Emma and new Katy sandal feature a 50mm (just under two inches) block heel covered with chevron-patterned stacked leather for a faux-bois effect.

The Grear ankle-wrap thong style from spring ’15 was back in a slew of new hues — a wise move considering that this sandal silhouette is making a comeback on the runways of Christian Dior, Chanel and Louis Vuitton.
