Lately, over-the-knee boots make good sense — for reasons both fashionable and functional. This week has been one for the books, after all. First, we got hit with Storm Juno. Then, just as the snow was beginning to melt, it got freezing cold all along the Eastern Seaboard.
This makes bundling up essential, yet difficult for those of us who still want to cut a clean, sleek — even, dare I say it — sexy line. Ergo, leggy footwear that doubles as a shield from the elements.
Over-the-knee styles aren’t anything new, but frequent wearers of the style — including Olivia Palermo, Liv Tyler, Angelina Jolie and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley — seem to agree that they are right on right now.
Popular blogger and photographer Garance Doré recently spilled digital ink over the topic of what to wear them with. We, however, think the real question is what not to wear with them. Heeled styles are great over pants or jeans of the same tone, while lower- and flat-heeled versions look great with everything from oversize knit tops and tights to A-line miniskirts for a Brigitte Bardot spin.
