Oscars 2015: Best and Worst Footwear

The Academy Awards came and conquered.

Neil Patrick Harris dazzled as the evening’s host, while the night’s top honors went to Julianne Moore for Best Actress and Eddie Redmayne for Best Actor. “Birdman” walked away with Best Picture.

John Travolta shared an awkward exchange with Idina Menzel (aka “Adele Dazeem”), a “50 Shades of Grey” joke happened when Dakota Johnson presented and NPH stripped down for a “Birdman” spoof.

The fashion didn’t disappoint, either. While footwear moments are typically a challenge to find, thanks to all the long gowns, a trend of slits and sheer dresses provided peeks at the shoes.

Simple single-sole styles, like strapped sandals, were the frontrunner for top footwear style, with hot names like Jimmy Choo (seen in the opening number), Christian Louboutin and Stuart Weitzman dominating.

Here, FN takes a look at the finest in Academy Awards footwear and a few celebs who missed a step or two.

BEST-DRESSED:

Rosamund Pike: The “Gone Girl” star stunned in an all-red look. Pike’s Givenchy dress provided the perfect slit for a view of her strappy shoes, also red.

Emma Stone: The “Birdman” actress channeled the Great Gatsby era, pairing her Elie Saab dress with a custom-dyed ankle-strap peeptoes by Christian Louboutin.

Jennifer Aniston: Stuart Weitzman’s Nudist sandals are a red carpet staple, and the star wore a custom-dyed pair in nude.

Eddie Redmayne: The Best Actor winner has proven himself a standout style star, too. He accepted his award in a pair of black smoking slippers.

WORST-DRESSED:

Jared Leto: His custom Givenchy suit and stark white lace-ups raised a lot of fashion questions.

Will.i.am: The artist chose leather desert boots, which were too casual for such a fancy affair.

Felicity Jones: While the star is typically an awards-circuit winner, we’re not sure this dress flattered her figure. And her Brian Atwood platforms were hidden.
