Amy Schumer’s Stylist Talks Standout Shoes

On film, Amy Schumer plays a “Trainwreck,” but her personal fashion sense certainly isn’t. Leesa Evans is Schumer’s resident stylist — after meeting to work on the movie, the star enlisted her help for the press tour of the hit summer comedy. Spy caught up with Evans to talk all things shoes, from the red carpet to everyday, and for an inside look at the styles on set.

How did you approach Amy’s character?

“She’s at the point in her life where she’s trying to figure it all out. We didn’t want [the character’s] clothes and style to be too perfect because sometimes she gets it right and sometimes she gets it wrong.”

What shoes did you source for the film?

“We ranged from Rag & Bone to Alexander Wang and Gianvito Rossi. We also had shoes from Aldo and Steve Madden because that’s real. Sometimes you have your favorite high heel and sometimes you just have a throw-on heel.”

How would you describe Amy’s style?

“Amy is a simple and easy-going person. She doesn’t want complications, including in her clothing. I like her philosophy: ‘Do you feel good in this? Then it’s the right thing to wear.”

Amy has worn some great shoes for the press tour. How does she choose her footwear?

“Shoes are important because Amy doesn’t wear jewelry, so the shoes are a way to elevate her look. She’s supporting the outfit with the shoes. They’re not a second thought with her, but the standout accessory.”
