By now, you’ve probably seen the new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer. (If not, you should watch it immediately.)
We’re just under two months to go until the big premiere on Dec. 18, and rumor has it that this is the last sneak peek we’ll get of the latest film in the series. It’s also the first installment by new director and writer J.J. Abrams and Disney, not the original creator, George Lucas.
The new film’s hype definitely reached lightspeed overnight with the trailer release during Monday Night Football and fans scrambling to get their pre-sale tickets, which managed to crash several movie websites, including Fandango and AMC Theaters.
While the trailer is light on plot, we do get a chance to see some of Abrams’ cinematic viewpoint. From the Millennium Falcon in a chase scene with Tie Fighters to the remnants of Darth Vader’s mask, there are lots of memorable elements from the first films, along with plenty of new details. We get a closer look at the newest “Star Wars” hero and heroine — Finn, played by John Boyega, and Rey, played by Daisy Findley — and the new Dark Side villain, Kylo Ren, played by “Girls” star Adam Driver.
