Miss Universe is Crowned: Paulina Vega Wins — And Wears Chinese Laundry Shoes

The new winner is here: Miss Colombia, Paulina Vega, was named the 63rd Miss Universe. And for several segments during the show, she wore Chinese Laundry shoes.

The footwear brand is the official sponsor of the show and outfitted the contestants, including runner-up Miss USA, Nia Sanchez, in two different styles. First up: Chinese Laundry’s Abba slingback was worn by all, in a metallic silver or gold hue. Then, fitting for the Miami event, the women wore a nude platform stiletto as the official swimsuit shoe.

Earlier in the evening, Vega told the Associated Press: “It will be a dream come true to represent the woman of today. A woman who not only cares about being beautiful and being glamorous, but also cares about being a professional, intelligent, hard-working person.”

Chinese Laundry collaborator Kristin Cavallari was on hand on the red carpet, in her own Copertina style. The show also celebrated with a performance by  Gavin DeGraw and Nick Jonas. “The Today Show” anchor Natalie Morales co-hosted.

Favorite moment from the Miss Universe pageant?

“My favorite moment was after the top 5 were announced. We were so close to the girls that we could feel the nerves. It made me anxious and also incredibly excited for Miss Universe. Someone’s life was about to change and that was a great feeling.”

How did you decide what Chinese Laundry pair to wear?

“For a situation like this the dress came first before the shoes. I opted for a simple black pair that worked perfectly with my dress.”

What fall ’15 CL style are you most excited about?

“I have a fringe bootie coming out that might be my favorite shoe thus far. I’m such a 70’s, hippie, boho fan that fringe is always hot in my mind. Booties are my favorite style shoe because they’re sexy and can be worn with anything.”
