Adidas Unveils Mascot-Inspired Adizero Afterburner 2.0 Baseball Cleats

On the eve of the MLB playoffs, with the Houston Astros traveling to New York to face the Yankees in the first wild card matchup of the postseason, Adidas unveiled its Uncaged Collection, featuring nine new Adizero Afterburner 2.0 cleats.

The cleats will retail for $100 each and be available on Oct. 22. The shoes are available for pre-sale now via the Eastbay website and will soon be available on the Adidas website.

The uppers of the cleats will boast digitally printed, photo-realistic graphics of images resembling popular mascots including a bear, bulldog, cheetah, eagle, lion, tiger, panther, pirate and a marlin.

The cleats, the brand’s lightweight field-ready shoe designed for baseball’s fastest five-tool players, feature a lightweight synthetic upper with an abrasion-resistant no-sew toecap, a full-length LiteStrike EVA midsole for cushioning and comfort, and a SprintFrame plate with ProTrax cleat configuration for responsiveness and traction.

The Germany-based athletic brand is no stranger to releasing cleats with photo-realistic ferocious animal graphics. Back in June, the brand teamed up with rap superstar Snoop Dogg for the release of the Snoop Dogg Adizero 5-Star 4.0 Uncaged Cleat and Gameday Trainer. The cleat – inspired by the video for Snoop’s debut single from 1993, “Who Am I? (What’s My Name?)” – features the image of a Doberman, the dog the rapper transformed into in the video.
