Adidas to Release Lionel Messi-Inspired Soccer Cleat

With the UEFA Champions League Final in Berlin coming this weekend, Adidas announced its plans to release a soccer cleat for the player looking for comfort, grip and stability on the pitch, with Argentine star Lionel Messi in mind. The MESSI15 will hit shelves July 1.

The cleat will utilize materials and technology that Messi helped design, and that bare his name. The goal, according to Adidas, is for the cleat technology to match the athlete’s on-the-field footwear requirements.

The brand’s messiTOUCH material – with a unique x-ray look on the she’s upper – is used to give the cleat extra grip, stability and comfort. The brand also employed its messiFRAME technology to provide a greater fit, extra stability and traction on the pitch. For the athlete with superior movement on the field, the cleats will feature round forefoot studs referred to as messiPRINT, and the stud configuration and outsole referred to as messiGAMETRAX.

The cleats will retail for $220 and will be available on the Adidas website.

The FC Barcelona standout will debut the cleats June 6 during the UEFA Champions League Final against Juventus FC. The 27-year-old Messi can become the first player in the league’s history to score in three finals matches with a goal Saturday.

Adidas revealed last month its plans to slim down its existing line of soccer cleats to two types of shoes.
