Adidas to Release Soccer Cleat It Claims Is the Lightest Ever

Adidas is set to launch a limited run of what the company calls the lightest soccer cleat of all time — the Adizero 99g. The sneaker company will release 299 pairs around the world, all in men’s size 9.

The shoes will be available April 15 via soccer.com.

The Adizero 99g is the first release under the Adidas Soccer Limited Collection line. The collection will debut limited quantities of all of the company’s soccer innovations.

Adidas put the cleats through player testing before their release, having amateur, semi-professional and professional athletes, including Karim Benzema and David Alaba, use the product. The cleats were tested for tear strength, abrasions and falls to ensure that players hitting the pitch with intensity are adequately protected while remaining competitive.

“Player feedback is at the heart of everything we do in soccer, and the reduction of weight is important to players, as weight is a powerful driver for speed,” said Hazim Kulak, Adidas’ product manager, in a statement. “This reduction in weight assists players in performing at the highest level and continues Adidas’ commitment to being on the cutting edge of technology in soccer.”
