Adidas Runner Wilson Kipsang Talks NYC Marathon

Adidas-sponsored marathoner Wilson Kipsang is set to defend last year’s win at the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, when he hits the city’s streets with thousands of runners who are also looking to cross the finish line. Kipsang, who ran the course in 2:10:59 in 2014, is hoping to beat his winning time while wearing a black-and-orange colorway of the Adidas Adios Boost.

Kipsang spoke with Footwear News today about training, how the Adidas shoes help him on the course and his expectations for the race.

How was training for the New York City Marathon this year?

Training went very well. I trained on similar courses to get ready for this one. I feel that I’m ready for it.

Do you feel any pressure to repeat your 2014 performance?

Watch on FN

Not so much. But with the presence of new guys, new competitors, I think it will be a more technical and difficult race.

What shoes will you be running in? And how will they help your performance?

I’m using the Adidas Adios Boosts. They are going to help me on this course because they are much lighter, they are very comfortable and the Boost cushioning absorbs the shock and pushes you. They are really nice.

What are your expectations for the race?

First of all, to win and improve on my time. I also just want to run a good time.

What makes the New York City Marathon special?

The course. It’s such a nice course — and it’s a race that presents a challenge. Also, there are lots of people cheering, and the course takes you around the city. The best part is entering Central Park and finishing in Central Park. It’s such a wonderful race.
