Brooks Unveils Their Latest Technology: The Stride Signature Concept

As part of Outdoor Retailer 2015, Seattle-based running brand Stride Signature concept.

The idea may be simple — find the perfect fitting shoe for each runner — yet Brooks’ way to achieve this goal includes the latest in sport technology, allowing the brand to determine how each runner differs, and match them to the appropriate shoe. In basic terms, Brooks will assess how your body naturally wants to run, learn which type of running you favor, and match you with the ideal shoe.

“It’s cutting-edge science that’s groundbreaking in the sport about understanding the individual’s body and how everyone is unique and different,” said Carson Caprara, senior manager of global product management for Brooks. “We’ll finally be able to quantify those differences to help them fit into better running shoes.”

At the event — held at the end of the first day of the Outdoor Retailer trade show — the brand’s unveiled its new shoe categorizations. Brooks’ shoes, according to Caprara, have been broken down into categories based on four biomechanical silos: Cushion Me, Energize Me, Connect Me and Propel Me.

In addition to the Stride Signature concept, an app designed to help retailers put runners in the right shoes was also unveiled at the event.

“It will look holistically at the body to help retailers analyze what runners’ natural motion patterns are and then see how they deviate when they run, how far they move away from that, and use footwear to get them back to that baseline,” Caprara said of the app.

Although the app was on display at the event, it is still in the beta stage, and there is currently no date set for its launch.
