Kobe Bryant’s final on-court basketball shoe with Nike will spend more time talked about on social media than on retail shelves when it drops in January, but the baller’s announcement via Periscope will have fans searching worldwide for a limited edition pair this month.
Bryant announced that there would be 20 autographed pairs of the Kobe 11s hidden in 20 cities around the world on Dec. 22.
“There will be hints, questions that pose as clues. Some of the questions will be kind of standard stuff, growing up questions and things like that,” Bryant said during the live Periscope broadcast. “Other ones will be set around innovation, so it’s important for them to really understand the product as well.”
Details of the questions will be revealed as the worldwide scavenger hunt date approaches.

Nike announced yesterday that the Kobe 11, a low-top sneaker designed by Eric Avar, would hit stores Jan. 9 in its first colorway, dubbed the Achilles Heel. The shoe boasts the brand’s latest iteration of its Flyknit technology featuring thermoplastic polyurethane yarn for superior strength.
“Throughout my time with Nike, I’ve obsessed the details of my shoes. For the Kobe 11, we worked to perfect Flyknit for basketball,” the 17-time All-Star said in a statement.
