Boston-based athletic brand New Balance has added another athlete to its roster. Trayvon Bromell, the 100-meter IAAF World Championship bronze medalist, has signed a multi-year endorsement contract with the brand.
Bromell, who is in his junior year at Baylor University, is the youngest U.S. athlete ever to medal in the 100-meter race at the World Championships and is the world junior 100-meter record holder.
“Trayvon’s accomplishments as a young athlete make him a great addition to Team New Balance,” said Tom Carleo, the company’s VP of running, in a statement. “We build innovative product for the fastest athletes in the world, and we look forward to working with Trayvon as he drives the future of U.S. and global sprinting. In addition to his performance on the track, Trayvon shares with New Balance a commitment to giving back, which makes him a natural fit for our brand.”
Bromell, 20, was the first high school athlete to break 10 seconds in the 100-meter race and ran 9.84 seconds at the U.S. Championships in Eugene, Ore., making him the first U.S. teenager to qualify for the world championships in the 100-meter race. He followed that performance by running 9.92 to claim the 100-meter bronze medal at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Beijing this summer.
