Nike is honoring decathlete Ashton Eaton with a new limited-edition sneaker that hits stores on Dec. 26.
The Nike Lunar Caldra — which Eaton wore at the IAAF World Championships in August, when he broke his own world record, set in 2012 — will come in a gold colorway to celebrate the stunning athletic achievement.
Nike said its design team updated the Lunar Caldra cross-training shoe based on Eaton’s feedback during wear-testing prior to the championship races. The low-profile, neutral sneaker was designed to be versatile and responsive.

“This is the one shoe you can toss in your bag whether you’re going out for a 5-mile run, lifting heavy weight, doing drills or going after some high-intensity training,” Drew Conant, footwear product director at Nike, said in a statement.
Eaton said of the shoe, “I had been hesitant in moves, but now I can hit a position and bounce right back. It’s like I can do anything from 100 meters to a marathon. I feel like [the sneaker] can take on all disciplines and all distances.”

The Lunar Caldra is known for its ultra-soft feel, with Lunarlon cushioning, accompanied by Flywire cables on the forefoot to enhance lockdown when cutting from side to side. The new “ode to Eaton” version will feature a gold mesh upper accented by black laces and a black Swoosh, and a white-and-black sole. It will be sold on Nike.com and at select retailers.
Additional colorways of the Nike Lunar Caldra will arrive in early 2016. Look for red/black and volt/black versions.
