Nike has debuted a bold new running concept shop in Tokyo, its first in the Japanese city.
The two-story, 5,400-sq.-ft. store, located in Kichijoji, adjacent to Inokashira Park, features a full lifestyle offering of running and training gear.
“We are extremely excited that Nike Kichijoji is our first running experience store in Tokyo,” said Heidi O’Neill, VP and GMM of Nike Stores, in a statement. “At Nike, we love to run. We want this store to be an invitation for Tokyo to come run with us.
Many of the store’s design elements are influenced by Japanese heritage and arts. The exterior has a slated wood screen inspired by traditional woodcraft, with an embedded “Just Do It” slogan. Inside, graphics created by local artist Shun Sasaki, whose work pays homage to the area’s artistic traditions, are showcased. Digital signage throughout the space highlights local tones and patterns.

The new store offers a range of special services for shoppers, including Personal Run Clinics, where runners receive one-on-one coaching on an in-store treadmill; bra-fitting for Nike+ members; and Nike iD custom-design options. To position the store as a community hub, Nike+ Run clubs will be hosted each week, with runners invited to stop in to pick up trial shoes, refill their water bottles, grab a towel or store their gear.
